This epic burger is part of a month-long event hosted by Girl Carnivore, but opinions are always my own!
Welcome to #BurgerMonth!
The warmer weather – and the start of grilling season – is something I look forward to every year. Being able to spend lazy days in the backyard capped off with dinner on the deck feels my soul in the best ways. Of course, one of our favorite warm-weather meals is burgers!

I love switching things up and trying new burgers, but this is one that I come back to again and again. It’s my tried-and-true burger patty smothered in my favorite sauce – and it’s a perfect burger for summer.

Ingredients
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 egg
- 1/3 cup unseasoned breadcrumbs
- 2 tsp. steakhouse seasoning
- 1/2 cup Jack Daniel’s Grill Glaze
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 hamburger rolls
- Lettuce, tomato, and red onion, for serving
The shining star of this burger is the grill sauce – a syrupy glaze with a kick of heat and a hint of whisky. It is – by far in a way – my favorite condiment and worth the effort to make!
The glaze recipe makes about 2 cups. Use some for these burgers and then plan to use it again next week (it will stay good in the fridge for about two weeks) or pop it in the freezer to save for longer.

Directions
- Prepare the Jack Daniel’s Grill Glaze ahead of time. (Recipe below!)
- In a bowl, mix together the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, and steakhouse seasoning. Form into 4 patties. Season with salt and pepper.
- In a pan over medium-high heat, add the formed burger patties. Cook for 4 minutes.
- Brush each burger with 1 Tbsp. Jack Daniel’s Grill Glaze. Cook for an additional 4 minutes.
- Flip again, and brush each burger again with 1 Tbsp. glaze. Add cheese on top.
- Cook until cheese is melted and burgers have reached desired doneness.
- Serve on rolls topped with lettuce, tomato, and red onion.
These can also be cooked on the grill over medium heat – just be sure to spray with non-stick spray before you put the patties on the grill. If they patties don’t feel firm enough for the grill, you can lay a sheet of foil over the grill grates and cook them on that – just be sure to poke a few holes in it!
Other Ways to Use this Grill Glaze
If you make a full batch of Jack Daniel’s Grill Glaze for this recipe, you’ll have plenty leftover. We also love this as a dip for chicken fingers or used to make Jack Daniels Grilled Chicken Sandwiches.
To save the glaze longer, you can pop it in the freezer.

Jack Daniels Grill Glaze Recipe

Jack Daniel's Grill Glaze
Ingredients
- 1 head of garlic
- 1 Tbsp. olive oil
- 2/3 cup water
- 1 cup pineapple juice
- 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1 Tbsp. soy sauce
- 1 1/3 cups brown sugar
- 3 Tbsp. lemon juice
- 3 Tbsp. minced white onion
- 1 Tbsp. Jack Daniels Whiskey
- 1 Tbsp. crushed pineapple
- 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper, optional
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 325 F degrees
- Cut the top of the garlic to expose the cloves and remove as much of the papery skin for the garlic as you can while still leaving enough so that the cloves stay together.
- Put garlic into a small casserole dish or baking pan, drizzle olive oil over it and cover with a lid or foil.
- Bake for 1 hour. Remove garlic and let it cool until you can handle it.
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together water, pineapple juice, teriyaki sauce, soy sauce and brown sugar. Over medium-high heat, bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce the heat to a simmer.
- Squeeze the sides of the head of garlic until the paste-like roasted garlic is squeezed out. Discard remaining skin and whisk garlic paste into the sauce.
- Add remaining ingredients to the saucepan and whisk to combine well.
- Let mixture simmer for at least an hour or until sauce has reduced by about 1/2 and is thick and syrupy, stirring periodically to make sure it doesn’t boil over.
- Use immediately or store in a jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
