A true sign of fall: school starts today!
While there is no “normal” for most school kids this year, we’re trying to keep things as normal as possible – which definitely means first-day treats for us!

The kids love doughnuts – and so do I! – so these caramel apple tea doughnuts would be the perfect way to kick off our fall learning season!

Ingredients
- 1 Republic of Tea Caramel Apple Tea Bag
- 1/3 cup boiling water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup white sugar
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Taylor & Colledge Organic Vanilla Bean Paste
- Torani Puremade Caramel Sauce
The secret of the flavor here is thickening the tea with cornstarch to make a caramel-like consistency. It makes these so light while packing a big flavor punch!

Directions
- Brew 1 caramel apple tea bag in 1/3 cup boiling water for 5 minutes. Remove tea bag and whisk in cornstarch until thoroughly combined. Microwave for 30-40 seconds, until thick and bubbly. Set aside to cool.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray doughnut or muffin pans with nonstick spray.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the egg, white sugar, and brown sugar until thoroughly combined. Whisk in the melted butter. Whisk in the milk, cooled tea, and vanilla paste.
- Stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Spoon batter into prepared pans. Bake for 14 minutes, until a knife inserted comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pan for about ten minutes, then turn out onto a plate and drizzle with caramel.
- Serve immediately.
These are best served right away. If you’re making them in advance, hold off on the caramel. When ready to serve, microwave for a few seconds to warm slightly then drizzle with caramel.
