I’m always up for a challenge so I was excited to jump in when JSL Foods asked me to cook up something fun using their egg roll wrappers! We are big fans of traditional egg rolls – and Asian-inspired flavors in general – but I knew I wanted to switch it up and try something a little different with these!
I created these egg rolls with versatility in mind. They’d be a perfect appetizer for the big game or game night at home, but they’d also be a great option for lunch or lighter dinner paired with a salad.

Instead of the traditional chicken and cabbage flavored with soy sauce, these rolls are stuffed with chicken smothered with a Korean-style BBQ sauce, pineapple and red onion – and then cooked in the air fryer to keep them lighter.

Ingredients
- 1 lb. boneless chicken breasts, cooked and shredded
- 1 cup Korean-style BBQ Sauce + additional for serving
- 1/2 cup chopped red onion
- 1 cup chopped fresh pineapple
- 12 egg roll wrappers
- Non-stick cooking spray
The egg roll wrappers I used for this recipe were from Twin Dragon, and I really liked them. In the past, some of the egg roll wrappers I’ve used tended to rip as they were rolled, but these worked really well – and tasted great.
Be sure to follow JSL Foods on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. You can purchase Twin Dragon Wrappers at Walmart, Albertsons, Shaw’s, Von’s, Stater Bros, Fred Meyer, QFC, Safeway, Associated Stores, Giant Stores, Shop N Shop, Winco and Price Chopper! If they are not in your local store, ask them to carry Twin Dragon Wrapper products.
Directions
- n a large bowl, combine the shredded chicken breast and BBQ sauce and stir until well combined.
- Fold in the onion and pineapple.
- Place an egg roll wrapper on the table in front of you with a corner facing you. Place 3 Tablespoons of the chicken mixture in the middle in a rectangular shape.
- Dip your finger in water and run it along the edge of the wrapper to moisten.
- Fold the side corners of the wrapper in, then fold the corner facing you up.
- Roll the egg roll tightly towards the remaining corner, until sealed.
- To cook in the air fryer: lay in the air fryer in a single layer and spray generously with non-stick cooking spray. Cook at 390 degrees for 12 minutes, flipping after 8 minutes.
- You can also bake these in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes, turning halfway, or fry in oil until golden and crisp.
There are a lot of options for cooking these egg rolls. I prefer the air fryer because it’s the quickest and also gives them a great crunch. Clean up is also a breeze.
Baking also works, but will take a little longer. If you want the traditional crunch of an egg roll, frying is the way to go.

Our family loves Asian-inspired food! Gyoza is one of our favorites – and stir frys, like Chickpea and Broccoli Stir-Fry, are frequent go-tos on busy nights. For a more traditional take on egg rolls, Chicken Egg Rolls are perfect!
