Winter Pecan Horns

This post is sponsored in conjunction with Christmas Cookies Week. I received product samples from sponsor companies to aid in the creation of the Christmas Cookies Week recipes. All opinions are mine alone.

When you hear “Christmas cookies”, do you think of a certain type of cookie? For me, it’s three – the three that my Opa made us in huge batches every year.

We’d always look forward to the package he’d send in December with oranges picked from his backyard trees and an enormous amount of gingerbread, butter cookies, and these pecan horns.

I love his recipes so much – but hardly anyone needs to be cranking out 15 dozen cookies, especially this year! I’ve spent time adapting his bakery-scale recipes measured by weight into something more manageable to the family tradition would live on.

New York-Style Black & White Cookies

This post is sponsored in conjunction with Christmas Cookies Week. I received product samples from sponsor companies to aid in the creation of the Christmas Cookies Week recipes. All opinions are mine alone.

If you’ve never had a black and white cookie, put it on your list for the next time you visit NYC. These oversized, cake-like cookies that are frosted half with vanilla and half with chocolate are some of my favorites – and they’ve been on my baking bucket list forever.

All this extra time home is giving me some time to get around to ideas I’ve had stashed away – and these pillowy cookies just made my heart so, so happy.

Who else is pumped for Halloween? I know this year is going to look different, but I still can’t help but be excited – Halloween is one of my favorite days. I’m planning lots of fun eats and crafts at home. We’ve got our costumes and we’re ready!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch Cupcakes

Actual conversation I had with my four-year-old a few weeks ago:

J: Mom, I like cupcakes, but I don’t like icing.
Me: So you like muffins?
J: Yeah! I like muffins!

She had me rolling with laughter! But it also got me thinking about what else I could top cupcakes with – and these cupcakes were born out of that experiment.

These rich chocolate cupcakes are topped off with a layer of marshmallow and then covered with a crunchy, chocolate-peanut butter topping. You won’t miss the icing with these candy-topped treats!

Dark Chocolate Hazelnut Biscotti

How is homeschooling going?

It’s one of the questions I’m asked most frequently these days. I don’t want to jinx anything by being over confident, but so far? I think we’re nailing it.

Sure, there are plenty of frustrating moments. And moments I wish the kids were both in school and I could go to the bathroom without anyone calling for me. But there are so many moments I love and I’m so grateful to be experiencing.

Sweet Potato Pecan Quick Bread

Don’t tell the other seasons, but I’m pretty sure fall is my favorite. So much about it makes me happy – the crisp air, Halloween and Thanksgiving, and, of course, the continued plethora of produce.

Confession, though: I’m not a pumpkin girl. And while pumpkin gets all the love on other blogs, I wanted to make sure my first recipe of autumn focused on one of my fall favorites – sweet potatoes.

M&M Cookie Bars

Hands up if you’re trying to make back to school fun!

I know there’s a lot of stress around school this year but I’m trying to celebrate the kick off of another year of education – especially because we’ll be doing this one at home! Yup, we’re officially homeschooling this year.

Not having to go back on the school’s schedule – or with the school’s community – definitely makes things different this year, so I’m making an effort to incorporate some new traditions and treats. And what’s more classic than a cookie bar?

Strawberry Scones

We are knee-deep in strawberry season here and, honestly, it’s one of my favorite food seasons! We’ve already been picking twice, and I’ve put up a batch of jam and a batch of pie filling. We’ve been eating strawberries every day – and I’ve been trying some new strawberry goodies.

Eight strawberry scones drizzled with icing arranged in a circle on a white plate. The plate is sitting on a pink napkin and a container of strawberries is off to the side.

These strawberry scones are an adaption of my favorite savory scone recipe. They’re not too sweet, and absolutely perfect with a cup of tea. And, they’re my kick off recipe for this year’s #BrunchWeek!
